Make Sure Your Choices Between Meals Don’t
Sabotage Your Health Goals


Over the last 30 years, the average number of snacks consumed per day has doubled. Snacks, including foods and drinks, provide about one-fourth of daily calories for the average American. And nearly one in six adults get more than 40 percent of their total daily calories from food and beverage snacks.
Unfortunately, the foods and drinks contributing the most calories in snacks are often not the best options. Many of adults’ choices when snacking are high in fat and/or sugars and low in beneficial nutrients.
But snacks can actually be good for you — as long as they’re healthy and done in moderation. Fruits and vegetables make an excellent choice. They’re convenient, low in calories and provide important vitamins. And try these yummy healthier substitutions:

Devil’s food cake
Ice cream bars
Pudding made from whole milk
Doughnut

Reduced sodium baked tortilla chips
Angel food cake
Frozen fruit bars
